Simple Tip: How To Put iPhone or iPad into DFU Mode

Here are two simple steps to put your iPhone or iDevice into DFU mode.

What Is DFU Mode

You might wanna ask what is the meaning of DFU mode and what happens when my iPhone is in DFU mode. Now DFU Stands for Device Firmware Update and it simply means or when your iPhone is said to be into DFU mode it actually means your iPhone's Firmaware is now in the mood of interacting/interfacing with iTunes.

In DFU mode, Your iPhone or iDevice does not actually boot its operating system or make use of the boot leader.


When To Put Your iPhone into DFU Mode

You will be required to put you iPhone into DFU Mode when you are Doing a Firmware update which is done through iTunes. Youmay anneed to put your iDevice into DFU mode when your iPhone or iDevice is bricked and you need to install new Firmware.

Put Your iPhone/iDevice into DFU Mode

STEP 1.
  • First thing to do is to turn off turn off the device
  • Now Plug your device into your computer using your phone's USB cable.
  • Now Press and hold the Power button for 3 seconds.
  • After counting the 3 seconds in the step above, immediately Hold the Home and Power buttons for at least 10 seconds.
  • Release the Power button but keep holding the Home button untill you see a pop up in iTunes reading; iTunes has detected iPhone in recovery mode...bla bla bla.

STEP 2.

Note that the step 2 may be used for Bricked iPhones/iDevices.
  • To put the iPhone into DFU mode, just Press and Hold the Sleep/Power Button while also holding the Home button at the same time until the Apple logo on the screen disappears. Note that for the fist time the iPhone might restart once or twice. just make sure you have a completely black screen before releasing the button combination. 

  • Pick up your USB cable, plug the other end into your computer. Press and hold the home button and plug the USB cable into your iPhone. Continue holding the home button until a notification appears on iTunes stating "your iPhone is Detected in recovery mode.
