How To Update Samsung Galaxy S4 Snapdragon To 5.0.1 Lollipop I9505XXUHOD7 stock firmware

There is a new release of Android Lollipop build I9505XXUHOD7 by Samsung for its Galaxy S4 which uses Snapdragon 600 quad-core processor. This means that, users of the Samsung Galaxy S4 snapdragon can now update their smartphones firmware to the new Android version 5.0. The Firmware is available to Galaxy s4 users in Germany.

For those users who are located in the supported regions, you can update simply through the Samsung Kies server. Connect your device to check for updates. However there are also manual steps outlined out in this post which will guide you through a successful update to the new firmware.

In reference to a thread in xda developers forum, the new firmware is said to improves the stability for the LTE model. The firmware seems to be smooth like KitKat. Besides, the RAM management has been improved and it brings five new German apps. The battery percentage in the status bar is enabled by default.

What You need to Prepare Your Phone For The Update

Take note with the following before you proceed with the update as your phone might experience some deficiencies if not considered before proceeding.

Make sure your GT-I9505 in unlocked.
Make sure you have installed all the appropriate drivers for your phone (S4 snapdragon)
There should be enough battery life on the phone not less than 70%
Turn on USB Debugging Mode. Here is how;
Also note that you will lose the rooted version of your phone. This means that, your phone will no longer belong to the rooted version anymore.

How To Install The 5.0.1 Lollipop I9505XXUHOD7 stock firmware

Step-1: Extract the downloaded firmware zip using any extracting software
Step-2: Extract the Odin zip
Step-3: Switch off your Galaxy S4 phone
Step-4: Enter into Download Mode by pressing and holding Home, Power and Volume Down buttons together
Step-5: Launch Odin as Administrator on the computer. To do that, just click on the Odin tool then right-click and select Run as Administrator from the drop down menu
Step-6: Now connect the S4 to the PC using USB cable while it is in Download mode. Wait for some time until Odin detects the device. When the phone is connected successfully, the ID: COM box in Odin will turn light blue (or, any other color according to Odin version) with COM port number. This step might take some time
Step-7: In Odin click the AP tab and select the firmware file extracted in step-1
Step-8: Enable Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time check boxes in Odin. Also, uncheck Re-Partition check box
Step-9: Double check everything and click the Start button in Odin

If you went through the above steps successful, the installation must start now. Note that installation will take a while to complete. After complete installation, the phone will automatically restart. Do not unplug the USB cable until the home screen appears.
